FAQ
Panrimo respects the parental role in the study/intern abroad process and works hard to navigate what sometimes can be a delicate balance between student optimism and parental concerns. Below are the questions parents most frequently ask. Please contact Panrimo directly at parents@panrimo.com for additional information, to schedule a site visit overseas or at our Michigan office, or arrange a student/parent conference call.
What if my son or daughter has a problem abroad?
One of Panrimo’s most important services is it’s onsite staff in each country where we offer programs. These professionals conduct orientation and work closely with our affiliated universities in that country. Their primary job is to prepare students for the cultural differences of the host country.
Will my son or daughter be safe?
Understandably, safety is one of the concerns we discuss most often with parents. The universities where Panrimo operates programs are prestigious, stable and located in safe areas. In addition, a thorough pre-departure orientation prepares students to travel safely and wisely. Panrimo continuously monitors the safety of the nations and cities in which it offers programs, adjusting or even cancelling the program if safety issues are evident.
What about Anti-Americanism abroad?
Negative opinions about Americans and their government, history or culture is a reality in many countries, but it often takes students and their parents by surprise. Most anti-American opinions are simply individuals attempting to irritate the guest student by prejudice or ignorance and are rarely a threat to personal safety. A classroom debate or anti-American campus rally can be intimidating, but these are legitimate components of the learning process.
Do Panrimo's programs promote cultural interaction and immersion?
One of the most crucial aspects of an international educational experience is ensuring students actively interact with the host culture. While students are exposed to cultural interaction through their fellow classmates/employees, supplementary cultural experiences are essential, providing context through which students gain a more complete understanding of their host country.
In our effort to educate your student about their host country’s culture, Panrimo includes cultural immersions and excursions on all programs. These activities are designed to highlight integral aspects of foreign culture, allowing your student to explore the rich histories and customs of their host country. Cultural immersions take place inside the host city, emphasizing a local custom or particularly fascinating structure and exploring the historical and social impacts of each. Excursions take your student outside the city to explore cultural heritage sites, where ancient histories, impressive architecture, and stunning landscapes provide exciting opportunities to learn about the country’s larger cultural climate. Combined, cultural immersions and excursions work together to create a more complete appreciation and understanding of the host country.
Is health insurance included in program costs?
Yes, Panrimo provides comprehensive international accident and illness insurance to all program participants in partnership with HTH Worldwide. You’ll have peace of mind knowing your Panroamer can access quality medical care when and where needed.
Will there be other students studying with my son or daughter?
Although there may not be other students from your son or daughter's home college, there will be other Panrimo students on the same program. Panrimo has a selective admissions process that limits the number of students in each program to not more than ten in order to provide more personal service and assure an in-depth host country experience.
How do I contact my son or daughter while abroad?
Most parents use a combination of e-mail, telephone and regular mail to contact students. Panrimo onsite coordinators help students purchase in-country cell phones as part of Next Day Orientation upon arrival. Panrimo informs students of their addresses abroad before departure. It is not recommended packages or money transfers be sent directly to a student’s overseas home address. Mailboxes are not as secure as back home.
Who receives the program bills?
Unless a student requests otherwise, Panrimo sends program bills to a student’s home or university address. Bills are sent at the application deadline or once a student has been accepted by both Panrimo and the host university. Sometimes the student’s home university requests directly billing. We then send invoices to the student’s study/intern abroad office.
What are my payment options?
Panrimo accepts cashier’s checks, money orders, and credit cards. There is an addition fee if paying with credit card. We also accept transfers of financial aid from your son or daughter’s home university. For more information, please visit our financial aid section.
Does Panrimo assist with parent visits to the host country?
Panrimo staff has seen an increase in parents visiting their Panroamer abroad. Panrimo will assist with hotel recommendations and invites parents to take advantage of special family excursion packages when planning to visit the host city. These parent-Panroamer explorations make for a memorable and carefree time together. Please call us at 248.686.2225 or email us at info@panrimo.com for details.
