Developing a new workout schedule when moving cross country or even internationally can be extremely difficult…

So you’re a runner or a yogi or a lifter or a basketball player and you’re going on a trip? Here are some killer ways to keep up on your workouts whilst abroad!

1. Don’t fret if you miss a few workouts — especially if you are traveling for a long time ( study abroad, international move, internship, etc. ), it can be hard to establish a consistent workout routine during your first few weeks. Seeing as everything around you has just drastically changed, this is pretty understandable! Once your schedule settles into a more consistent day-to-day routine, it will become easier to work in those workouts. It may seem like you just don’t have enough time at first, but things will settle out soon enough. Stay motivated and dedicated–working in a yoga session here or a jog there–until you have the chance to nail down a more concrete schedule / routine.

2. Don’t be afraid to break into the local fitness scene — especially if you’re going to a country that doesn’t speak your native language, it can be very intimidating to find a gym or a fitness event near you ( on top of all those other things you have to do! ). If you’re a gym goer, do some research on the fitness centers near you and don’t be too scared off if they seem out of your comfort zone–there are probably other foreigners there, too. Look online for local fitness events or groups if that is more up your alley–I’m sure they would love to welcome you into their fitness community. A great way to find gyms / places to work out is to take a jog or walk around the city! I stumbled upon my favorite park in Prague when I was jogging one day, and from that day forward that’s where I worked out every day! Get out there in the city or town you’re in and do a little exploring–I’m sure you will stumble upon a place that will fit with your fitness level / style!

3. Get creative! — Once you’re schedule / routine has settled down and you’ve possibly broken into the local gym / fitness scene, get creative with your fitness! My favorite way to get creative with Yoga, especially, is to take creative pictures of my yoga wherever I go. How cool would it be to yoga or run or dribble all around the world? Capture those moments!
